OP is from UK...we don't  have the same kind of "sue" culture overhere.

If the griefers are based somewhere in Middle East,  it's a waste of time and money in getting Lawyers involved.

In addition to calling your local police, you may want to check to see if your country has a special Cyber Crime unit and file a report with them.  In the United States, the FBI runs one.  I've put the link below.  Even if you are from the UK, it couldn't hurt to file a report there as LL is a US company and perhaps the griefers are living here too therefore the crime may also fall under US jurisdiction.

I would like to help.

Give me an IM and I'll see what I can do.

I have dealt with this kind of stuff before. I am the owner of several sims and I am also a scripter.

I do not want any money for my help.

One thing I will not do: attack the griefer in any way.

Kudos to you SimonLeo!  I'm sure a lot of us would be interested to hear anything you learn about the nature of these attacks.  I'd like to learn how someone might be "locked out of their sim" and what measures can be used to prevent it.  (No, I don't want details on how to reproduce the attack, just the technical nature of the threats.)

The "locked out of their sim" part is what interests me also.

I recently had a griefer on one of our sims that had me thinking on how to fix it for a while.

The griefing effectively crashed my viewer about 5 times. But after that I figured out how toget it fixed quickly. :smileyhappy:

Some prevention is possible but it is mostly smart use ofthe land poperties and auto reporting of things that are 'out of the ordinary'.

The simplest solution to most griefing as well as a content theft and other dastardly behavior would be for LL to require identification for all new accounts (e.g., PIOF).  That would make it far harder for repeat offenders (assuming LL bans them).

But LL is pretty firmly against that.  I don't know what their reasons are.  I do understand that there's a benefit to complete anonymity.  There's also a price, and this is an example.

I would not have been in SL if it required me to tell a company I didn't know, let alone trust, my personal data.

Lucky for you, LL allows you to do this.  The price we all pay is that griefers and theives can keep coming back with new accounts.

If it were my decision, I would require identification.  But it's not.

As long as LL continues with their policy, this is just what we have to put up with.  I don't see any evidence they'll change.

Facebook (and Google) are staring to ask for mobile phone verification before opening accounts - and as we all know, LL would like to be as much like Facebook as possible, so perhaps we can expect some further degree of identification in the near future.

Pie says "Stockpile alts created through a proxy now, while you can remain anonymous".
