SL is down so I'm going to rant now.

And it feels great. I've been gambling now in second life for about the past 2 months. I've definitely had my ups and downs just like anyone else, but for some reason I just couldn't stop. You know when I first started I went to Fish Bowl with 1000L, went up to 12k, then back down to 0L, then borrowed 2k from a friend, got back up to 18k, then back down to 0L again. From then on I was just simply hooked man.

I even asked the owner a few times Foxy Furkittens or something to actually ban me because I couldn't stop myself frmo going back, and he never did, and he responded to me too so it's not like he didn't hear me, but I did eventually get banned if yo know what I mean.

The reason I started gambling to begin with is because I guess I was under the assumption that these were actual skill games. They are not. This is straight gambling man. Before I started playing the games I knew nothing about them. I've been playing SL on and off for 4 years but I have never once played one of these games. I mean I knew about games like greedy and stuff like that, so I thought, hey I'm kinda ok with games I bet I could be good at them. So I wanted to practice to get really good to maybe in the long run start to make some profit from it.

It didn't take me long, however, to realize that these were not skill games. These are casino gambling nothing but luck machines. I mean yeah if you want to get nerdy about it, maybe there is like 5% skill involved, if that, but I wouldn't even call it skill, more like common sense. For example, are you going to grab that spin? or are you going to hit that last number and hope that it puts you over the score you need to win the money?

I mean I don't care how you put it man, it's gambling. The effect is gambling, the feeling is gambling, the money is gambling. I was addicted man and I think in the past couple of months I've blown about 100k or so.

And yes, I did my homework. I researched all the casinos in SL, well most of them. I tried to find the best edge that I could. Everytime I would find something new I would commit to it but in the end I always ended up paying for it. And of course there's always the whole, you always win the 10L games, but everytime you play the 100L+ games you usually lose... like 10 times in a row.

I remember somewhere in the past couple of months there were a couple weeks there where I was MADLY addicted. It was a wake up call when I was just messing around on Youtube one day and came across this gambling documentary with that one british guy, the real confrontational guy. Damn you're going to make me look it up aren't you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSOXyshl5y8 < Louie Therox, that's the one.Actually the one that really got to me was this one > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgD8rkIxj7o

Anyways, it was bizarre to actually be able to relate to some of these people when I've never gambled in real life, and **bleep**, I never will either. I guess I am thankful that I blew a bunch of linden dollars and not real cash. I mean looking back on it now, it was a good experience, and at times it was a lot of fun, but the reality of it is when you're sitting alone in a casino in SL at 4 in the morning and you're out of coffee and you see another 10,000L that yo just bought quickly going down the drain. You can't stop it man, I mean you can, but you don't want to, so you keep going until you hit zero, un til you're on the damn gold digger slot machiens trying to win that 4k jackpot that no one will win for another 3 weeks.

I mean I have nothing against it all though. I think it's pretty cool you can gamble in Second Life. I mean yeah the whole skill games is clever because it works around some RL laws and restrictions, at least it does for the time being. No one really knows what's going on with it. I've talked to several casino owners and some of them seem to be on edge about it. Hell the other week I was at Fish Bowl games and some pop up kept coming about if I was in so and so state that it's illegal to be doing this or some **bleep**.

Anyways, I'm just here to let people know not to make the same mistakes I did. I mean if you enjoy gambling and yo know that you're going to lose more than you win and you're ok with that, then that's fine. But if you are doing all you can to gain some sort of edge to increases the probability of you coming out overall, let me tell you it's a waste of time. Even the ones that will tell you  "oh man I make so much money man you jsut gotta follow my rules and you can get that money" < even those guys have bad days and go hundreds of RL dollars in the hole.

I don't know if this post will rough a few feathers or not, but to be honest with you I hope it does because that's what makes life interesting. Shake things up a bit. Casinos are back in SL and they're stronger than ever man. Skill games my f*king ass. I want my 100k or whatever it is back. I've never spent so much in a video game before, well actually I don't consider SL a video game at all so don't freak out on me. I'm just saying... i've never put so much RL money into a computer program before I'll say.

Hmm. Ranting. Ranting. Ranting. Listening to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but now switching it up to some Sun Kil Moon/Mark Koveleiskei * spelling. Man I'm about to go way off course and start talking about my crazy dream last night so I better end this quick.

Anyways. I'm glad I'm done man. And I'm grateful because **bleep** man, if this was real life... I would be a die hard gambling addict for sure because I do have a very addictive and sometimes obsessive personality. I will never go near a real life casino, and if I ever do I'm only going with like 20 bucks in my hand or some **bleep** just go have a little fun. I've realized that I have so many other more productive things I can be doing in SL and RL than wasiting my money on some "skill games" or aka "casino machines."

Casino casino casino. Gambling gabmling gablnign! I SAID IT! I SAID IT B*TCH!!!

NO MORE SL CASINO GAMBLING FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you're already in the hole, stop while you're ahead man, trust me. Good luck.

Glad that you realised you have a problem with impulse control. Hope you continue to manage it properly.

Determination of what is acceptable in Second Life is left to Linden Lab, but human psychology is such that addiction can attach to just about anything. Legality or definition of terms makes very little difference here. Second Life would be a very boring place without anything that could be considered 'addictive' to those who can't control impulses, so I hope this is not a solution you're suggesting.

Note also that your post might be considered unacceptable, because you have used names of other residents and locations within Second Life. This is not allowed according to the Community Guidelines.

Gambling can be a black hole, without doubt... possibly the biggest "black hole" of them all!

When I was in my mid-teens, I put money into one of those silly machines that pushes the coins off of shelves (these). And basically I put in like 20p and got out like £1-2. So I was all happy, and put aaaaall of the 20p coins I got back into the machine, so happily convinced that I would make even more! But, of course, I lost the whole lot.

And that ALONE, that ONE experience was enough to stop me ever doing it again. Because... I worked out the trap. You're not SUPPOSED to win, you're SUPPOSED to give the house your money. And that's what happens!

Now, the only thing I have bet on since then is myself at Texas Hold 'Em Poker. I put like... perhaps £20 absolute total into that maybe a year or so ago?

Aaaaaand I lost it all. But that was MY fault, as ultimately poker is a game of skill, and I didn't have sufficient skill to win consistently enough and with big enough wins to earn money. But it was fun, isn't truly luck-based, and (unless I ever take lessons or learn more poker, which I almost certainly won't bother to do) I've learned my lesson.

I think as long as you remember that the whole POINT of luck-based gambling is that the odds are stacked against you (due to the "house edge") then... I find for me that's more than enough to stop me doing it.

Blackjack can be fun for a laugh though, as can many casino games. But... when I play them, I do them for a laugh and a bit of fun, not because I genuinely think I'll make any money from it.

The only thing that I'm really suggesting is that any newcomers who are new to the gambling game in SL just be reminded that you will always lose in the end. As for the talk about addictions etc, that is just something personal I decided to share about myself. It wasn't an opening to share your thoughts on my own psychology or what you think about addictions and impulse control. If you want to go into human psychology I can easily run circles around your mind.

You could say that about anything, of course anyone can be addicted to anything, especially in Second Life. The different is that this is gambling, it's a different kind of addiction and one that can involve a lot of real life money. Yeah sure, you can go crack out on sex sims for 4 days or something like that no problem, but at least you're not really at risk for anything other than losing sleep and it most likely affecting your RL. Gambling is a special case because the effects are at times instantaneous. You can debate all you want about how one addiction isn't much different from another, but it won't matter. Whatever point you're trying to make is pretty much meaningless. Gambling is a real addiction that has a lot more severe consequences than being addicted to most of the things in Second Life. It's real because it involves real money and sometimes a lot of it.

Also I never was suggesting anything, nor do I have some agenda anti-gambling thing going on here. I actually think it's pretty awesome that you can gamble in Second Life and that I was able to learn from this experience. I'm just sharing what happened to me. And gambling itself is enough to get anyone addicted, regardless if they are prone to addictions in the first place.

I know a couple people will read this and probably save a lot of money and that's good enough for me. Why can't somebody just rant and that be ok? Are my words not enough for you? Did I somehow set oyu off or something? You pry where you don't belong. I don't give a **bleep** about these forums, man. Most of it is people like you bickering and trying to look smart and be right about everything or something. So go on and think whatever you want to think. I say what I think and I think about what I say. Do you think? Because it sounds like your thoughts are copy pasted. I wouldn't be surpsied, most people are like that anyways, which is why I don't usually write in public places like these. I have to thank you because you've reminded me of this.

I won't be checking these forums again so whatever bull**bleep** you're going to respond with I won't be reading. So write what you have to to defend your ego or whatever it is that makes you say things like that.
