I am curious where SL got the info for which states are not allowed to play skill gaming.  I think the laws are confusing to say the least. I recently joined an online bingo site which is owned by Churchill Downs and when I asked if I was allowed to play from my state I was told there were no wagering restrictions in my state but my state is excluded from playing games in SL.

I am sure LL had the benefit of legal counsel in deciding which areas had to be restricted from skill gaming.  You may not be restricted from playing bingo online, but you may be restricted in playing other games.  It is also possible that your states laws put more liability on LL than they care to accept.  I seriously doubt LL arbitrarily decided people from your state could not game in SL.

The bottom line is SL is LL's world so you have to play by LL's rules.

I am sure they did and I have no problem going by their rules.. I just think the laws are a bit confusing since this is all really new territory. I have checked at various online sites that have wagering and see different states omitted so I think the laws at the moment are a bit unclear. Hopefully in the future the laws will be more clear about online gaming.

You didn't state what state you are in.

Churchill Downs believes that its bingo games are legal in all states.  And I'm certain they have very good lawyers.  But that still doesn't make it so.  ;)

Did you do any research on this topic for your state?

Yes I did some research and some sites allow my state and some don't and as I said the laws are not that clear for online gaming.  I am in Tennessee.  I don't think the Churchill Downs site allows all states. Hopefully in the future online gaming laws will be clearer and I would like to hope all states would be allowed but not sure that will happen.. LOL

Tennesse?  Really?

Tennessee for ages had some of the strictest anti Gambling laws on the books.

I'm not up to date on what's going on there now but wasn't it around 2005 before Non Profit Charities were allowed to even do anything that hinted of gambling for fund raising purposes?  Even things like raffles were prohibited and now can only be done under very strict rules.

Yes there are very strict gambling laws but as with many states there is no menton of online gambling. Now if you tried to operate an online casino in Tn. I am sure you might run into some trouble.. LOL   I was just curious where different sites might get their information.  Not like I ever got rich playing games in SL but I did enjoy it but I will find other ways to amuse myself.. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

While sitting up in my home office wanting to see my friends online I find myself debating about sl and their skilled gaming policy.I live in South Dakota where alot of my rl friends that was very active in sl with shops, clubs, gaming regents, and land sales was force to leave because of where they live. Alot of us went to other grids and got land (a whole lot cheeper) then open up gaming regents, shops ect. and is better off for it.

Me,,, I own 3 regents working on a 4th, play skill games, and is very happy for it. If I would tried in sl,,, well all know the cost of that...

One thing I will say, The "BIG"Joke is on Second Life in the end becouse more and more residends is leaving slowly...
