Is Mesh really worth it? *Fashionista Blog*

Okay do not get me wrong, Im going Gaga for Mesh like everyone else is. But the thought of being seen fabulous by one crowd and naked and bald by another is really scary. Im not saying not to ever go Mesh, Im just saying do you think you should wait for the viewers to catch up? To me its just like wearing labels in rl, if I have to constantly tell you who is it, then its NOT worth it. In my opinion expensive things should brag on there own without me having to say, ''oh by the way this mesh''. Just to be told in return, ''oh I thought you were just doing the bald look'' O.o Fashion-Hell-No. Personally. Im going to wait awhile, and spend all the money I was going to spend on mesh on other awesome expensive stuff *kisses 975L Maitreya Gold Shearling Boots Black*

How many viewers do you say can't see mesh?

I can see holding off buying rigged mesh clothes and hair until Qarl's deformer is rolled out properly, so you can get stuff to fit properly without having to resort to lots of alpha layers, but I really don't think that you're now going to run into many people using viewers that can't see mesh at all.

The way I see it, what's the big deal if someone without a mesh enabled viewer sees you? Mostly likely they know its mesh and its not big thing. Just a silly little sphere.

I can't run mesh currently. I understand its supposed to make things run faster but each viewer I try just runs so slow for me. I'll stick with Phoenix Beta.

I love the way it looks though. For someone who loves anthro I can't wait to see what can be done with it. No more worrying about alpha layers!

Its the simple fact that, some Mesh things are expensive. Your not buying expensive stuff just so you and a couple others can see it. If that's the case what's the point? The whole idea of Mesh is to look better and more realistic. But if all people see is a sphere when they look at you, your basically paying over 500L to wear a sphere O.O

Most properly updated viewers now see mesh, including Phoenix.  Your friend must update!

I have a friend who hates it because she loves HER shape.  I love mesh clothing.  Well-done (not all are) mesh skirts look so much better than any others, and sweaters look like sweaters.  I think desingers in general have not fully developed their mesh skills yet.  I agree that it's not the best situation to have to accept what amounts to a shape chosen by a clothing maker.  However, I have some things that come in five sizes, so it's not an huge problem.  Also, for loose clothing that doesn't closely follow body shape, like sweaters, it's not a problem.  My attitude about price is that an exxceptionally good product is worth paying more for.  One good side effect of mesh is that designers have to offer demos, so I can actually see what a germent looks like on me before I buy, just like RL.I have bought a lot of clothing that did not look nearly as good on me as it did in the picture.  Some was so bad I just deleted it.

All of the viewers that will ever catch up have.

There are no viewers being anymore that don't support mesh.

Anyone not able to see mesh at this point is intentionally avoiding it.

Either they've got bad preferences / install, in a small camp that are still bugged out, were bugged out in a past version and are afraid little prim monsters will eat them if they try again, or they're just curmudgeny.

I've been buying skirts, pants, and shirts in the 150-250L range. A lot of this is cheaper than many prim, sculpty, and painted-on clothes.

Likewise, Ive been shifting to mesh furniture in my home because it is -lower- prim-cost than prim, higher than sculpty, but quicker to render.

Of course, I've also discovered that the prim cost of mesh items depends on their scale. If you scale them down smaller, the cost goes -DOWN-. Making mesh houses and furniture best for people on 'to-scale' avatars (such as usually under 6' tall for female) or even tinies.
