You don't.

Now, specific employers may put that requirement on you, because they want to hire people who know their way around in SL and understand the culture.  You might also find that you can't even get access to some Adult regions until you are at least 30 days old, because region owners want to keep the worst griefers out.  Those are not SL rules, though, just individual owners.

Having said that, I would not personally recommend getting a job until you have been around enough to have a decent wardrobe, skin, etc. and are confident enough with your basic skills that you won't be an embarassment to yourself or an employer.  You're the best judge of when you are ready. (I know a few people who still aren't ready after 4 or 5 years.  :smileytongue: )

One final note:  Most "jobs" in SL are for unskilled people and they don't pay very well at all.  If you really want to earn L$, you'll have to develop skills as a performer (DJ or musician) or a creator (scripter, modeler, designer, animator ...).  Even then, you can earn better money for your time by working in RL and just buying L$.  The best reason to work in SL -- skilled or unskilled -- is because you're having fun doing it.

It is up the the employer how old you have to be it isn't a hard and fast rule.  Most will not hire you until you are anywhere from 30 up to 90 days old depending on the job.

Employers impose these requirements because you have to know how to do certain things in SL in order to do the job.  Someone under 30 days old is generally still learning the ropes of SL.  The employer doesn't want to have to train you on SL basics. In addition, any jobs require you to handle people in a professional manner and if that fails how to defuse troublemakers.  People under 30 days old will find it hard to be afforded the authority and respect from older avatars they need to do the job effectively.

Many times employers also want people with well put together avatars, meaning high quality skin, eyes, shape, hair, clothes etc., especially if they will be representing them to the public.  Most people that are under 30 days old don't have all the things required yet or are still using starter avatars, or freebies.

Sometimes an employer will make an exception if you have a great looking avatar already and can demonstrate the basic SL knowledge and skills needed to do the job.  You would need to talk to the employer directly and ask for the chance to demonstrate this.

I agree 500% with Rolig on this.  Don't be in such an all-fired hurry to saddle yourself with a Second Life job!  Buy some $L instead.  If you can't bring yourself to do that, then equip yourself with some of the many freebies!  Besides the freebie stores, there are group gifts, Lucky Chairs, Midnight Mania boards, and hunts where you can get high quality free stuff!

Hunts, especially are great...because not only do they get you Free Stuff, you're exploring places all over Second Life.  They're fun.  Do a Google search on "Second Life hunts" to find some.
