Blake Sea Rez Zones

by Linden on ‎09-14-2009 06:05 PM

The Blake Sea has any number of rez zones, start lines, buoys, and other parcels in it. To make navigation a bit less of a memorization exercise, we've added rez zones in the northeastern corner of each Blake Sea Region (plus in a few of the adjacent sea Regions).

Each of these rez zones is 48 meters by 48 meters.

So this adds several dozen rez zones in those Regions; no more flying back to the start line in shame when you have to re-rez your boat. Here's one.

Don't forget that the Department of Public Works has an office hour every Friday at 3 pm SLT, in the Shamon Region. Bring your questions or comments for Michael, Brent or Molly to ponder and respond to!

Excellent, I'm looking for cruising-grounds.  What/where is the Blake Sea?

by Member Opensource Obscure on ‎09-15-2009 03:00 AM

The Blake Sea is a set of ocean sims, connected to the mainland, set up by Linden Lab in 2009 April. The previous link leads to an empty wiki page about the Blake Sea - if you're inclined to, please help with writing it. Here are the official announcement and a comment by Tateru Nino.

Note that a SLURL to a Blake Sea region is included in the original post above.

Our original Blake Sea DPW post, along with an evolving chart, are found here (or in the sidebar on the left side of this page).

Hi Michael,

Would it be possible to please post transcripts of the DPW meeting office hour for those of us that can't make it in-world?

Also is there a target date for the release of additional Bay City land or additional Mainland themed projects?

/me adds t wishlist fur mole avatar in teh inventory library (cause theyre so cute)

Thank You Michael, DPW made a so nice work on blake sea

Its wonderful not must to search for the next far away place to rerezz after an off-world-experience.

Blake sea is a great place to sail not only in the mornig at Fastnet Rock, but Half Hitch is so beautiful created and a perfect place to drop Your boat in the water.

Btw. if someone liks to start with sailing in SL there is a sailing-wiki-page for some first steps growing.

The sailing community is mostly friendly and organizing some awesome events. Some started the boat building show or there are weekly cruisings and races all over the grid.

Ciao : )

This is great work and will make life easier for sure when sailing around Second Life.

Hmm, transcripts are a bit tricky, gotta set up my logging to exclude IMs and stuff, plus post a sign. I'll see what can be done.

I can't provide any target dates, sorry.

The contractors for the DPW wear Mole Avatars by Wynx Whiplash, of Extrovirtual! Linden Lab pays full retail for them, by the way.

Thank you for the information and, especially links.  I've missed everything about the Blake Sea because I've been away from SL ... sailing.  Across the Atlantic, around the Caribbean and back

If anyone is interested in a Learn to Sail Class, Starboards Yacht Club hosts one every Sunday at noon SLT.  Location is in Hollywood Sim (sorry don't have the SLURL right now).  Search for Starboards Yacht Club and you will find the location.  You can also get a GREAT free sailboat there (the Shelley Fizz) which uses wind that is user set rather than the extremely variable SL wind.

Thank you, Michael! This has been sorely needed!

I can also recommend the sailing lessons Sunday Noon at Starboards Yacht Club, as mentioned by Nber. I learned SL sailing  there, and have had great fun with it since.

There are other free sailing boats (proper sailing rather than default-vehicles with sails) that are a little less lively. Most use some form of settable wind, and some can carry several passengers. And not just for racing or cruising, there are daily pirate battles now.
