Question

Hello,

This is my first attempt at using a Mesh Clothing Kit and I am struggling with the texturing. I have taken the UV Map and the texture I want to use into Gimp and laid the texture over the map but this is where I am stuck.

Which Layer Mode should I use to merge the texture to the UV Map?

Which layers should be made invisible?

I end up with either a beautiful texture that includes the UV Grid - or I lose the UV Grid but my texture is dulled completely.

Please note:  I do not want to change the shape of the item or TINT it. I am trying to add a regular texture to a UV Map from a Mesh Clothing Kit purchased on SL.

Thanks much for any light you can shine here.

The UV map is just a guide for you to 'paint' your texture on. Don't use any layer mode. Put your texture on it, have the texture as a solid layer so the UV map doesn't shine through and try it in game. That way you get your texturized clothing product without the UV map showing through and it should not be dulled unless you chose dulled colors.

1.  Open the UV map in GIMP

2.  Create a new layer.

3.  Paint your texture on the new layer (or layers, you can use as many as you need)

4.  Hide or delete the UV map layer.

5.  Merge or flatten any other layers, and/or Save As a .jpeg file.

6.  Import the new texture into SL

7.  Apply the new texture to your mesh object, using the Texture tab of the Build window.
