One prim, two textures, possible?

You can put a different texture on each side of a prim. You can either just drag a texture from your inventory onto the prim side or, to have more control, edit the prim, go to the Texture tab. Select side in the options at the top. Then click on the side of the prim you want to texture. After that you can click on the texture box to pick a texture from your inventory (or drag it to the box)

Then you can mess with the settings to change the size and position of the texture on that side of the prim.

Good luck with your build

Here's a quick demo to show that hollowing a prim adds one face. I made a cube, hollowed it, then tapered it so you could see five sides and the inside at the same time, then turned a copy to show the bottom....

How many faces?.jpg

I count seven colors.

The interior rectangular cutout counts as only one face (as would a trangular or circular cutout) and so can have only one color and one applied texture. But, clever use of textures, offset and repeat can make good use of that one interior face.

Well, not quite.  You can't create a hollow that's more than 95% of the cube's volume, so the walls of your hollowed cube still have some thickness.  Faces 0 and 5 are still there at the top and bottom ends, just reduced to the shape of a skinny picture frame (which you can texture to make a skinny picture frame if you want to).
