It's almost impossible to return an item in SL.  Most merchants will not do that unless the item is somehow defective.  If you don't know how to use the item, the best solution is to learn.  Follow whatever directions came with it, or ask around to find other people who have used it or similar items.  Otherwise, store it away in your inventory.  On a slow day, maybe years from now, you'll find it and know exactly what to do.  (I keep finding things that I buried 5, 6, 7, 8 years ago.  Some are real heirlooms now.  :smileyvery-happy: )
