Has anyone had rogue names appear in their friends online list?

I have recently noticed three names in my web friends list that don't exist, either as a friend of mine of sl.  I have looked up the names in search and none exist.  Only one has a legitimate sl last name. Is there a bug?  Have I been hacked?  I've no idea at all!  Its all a bit disconcerting!

I agree with Irene - I think this is your freind's using display names. If you click on the profiles for further info it should show their permanent name as well as the display name they are currently using.

Thankyou for the responses received so quickly, sounds like Display Names is the answer!  And I'm assuming that I've never heard of it because I've never used viewer 2.

Has anyone considered changing their display name to say "I'm not your friend"?  It can be done... Just wondering. =^-^=

you're welcome, debz. i am not seeing the fancy display names, either. i am just waiting for a smack upside the head when i call someone by their username and not the display name they love sooo much
