1 iamyourneighbour
IP don't mean hoot nowdays just renew your MAC address and you get a new IP. Suppose if you cannot figure out how, first step is to stop clicking links and hit yes to everything. Particularly streams.
0 Syo Emerald
Without more information other than that someone guessed your alt right, its hard to tell how exactly he or she could come to the conclusion that its you. IP tracking systems such as Redzone was, are banned from SL, but this is by far not the only way to find out who has which IP. Steamservices or websites know your IP, for example. But knowing someones IP is not a 100% determination. Many people have changing IPs and an IP only gives a vague idea from which area the user loggs in. And don't even get me started on how IP can be manipulated.... It could be far easier. Maybe there was a suspicion from the begin. Many people automatically assume everyone has a bunch of alts. Maybe your alt has the same groups, a similar wording in the profile and visits the same places as you do. Observating this long enough gives some clues. And guessing is as well never outruled.
0 Freya Mokusei
It may be necessary to note that while ONE [in]famous IP detection system was removed from Second Life, the use of IP Addressing (and determining alts using IP address information) is not illegal in Second Life. It can be inaccurate, but this doesn't stop people using such systems. It's perfectly legitimate to use these systems on a personal level, but it's not allowed to disclose the results to other users. It's entirely probable that this was a one-off, and to agree with Syo - it's way more likely that this alt was disclosed through (legitimate) carelessness. It doesn't have to have been IP based, it's typically easier to determine alts through Social Engineering, timing analytics or typing analysis.
0 Nalates Urriah
IP tracking is often accomplished by use of a music or video channel. The parcel music or a video in the region will use a URL that grabs your IP and then matches it with the avatar name captured in the parcel. Via database search in the IP numbers collected it can make matches. Turning off auto-play in Preferencese or using the Firestorm viewer with filtering enabled can reduce the possibility of this type of tracking.
0 jeffrey11488313394
Hi some people make there Alts and use the same Email address, so that's one way and if you used the same sims that your main avatar used, then the way you write would give you away and the things you talk about or you can just slip up and not know that you did. the connections Im using now is not secured and even as I write the window is changing and I have to wait until they are finish looking at what Im doing before I can go back to this window and finish what Im writing. so there the 3 way enjoy SL use the fire wall and if you are using a Alt do not use the sims that your main avatar used, good luck byee

0 AlexandriteGem
I know of a law enforcement person who often signs on to catch pedophiles. Several on the FBI's Most Wanted list have turned up griefing around Toddledoo playgrounds. So it is possible to track down more information with an IP address and the right contacts with LL

0 AlexandriteGem
The person does start a tracing with the IP number. Then turns the information over to law enforcement, as necessary. LL cooperates providing account data once there is a reason to suspect wrongdoing, like turning up in a Wanted list. This brave person continues to hunt pedophiles in SL, starting with a simple tracing of his/her IP Believe what you want, authorities have effective ways to use IP addresses even if the average Joe does not

LL does not cooperate, but is forced by law to provide information as soon there comes order from a legitime organisation, that cán ask for such info. ... and "believe what you want" ... makes you not really a good party in a forum. It kills any other opinion than your own, and it's not correct.
0 AlexandriteGem
There are investigatitors lurking in several social media sites including SL, using tools not available to the average Joe. I see no point in arguing the facts with anyone unfamiliar. Again.. Believe what you want. But mind your behavior in social media..
